Somerset) with his parents at age 17. George served as school director. He was a

Republican and served as County Auditor (during the Civil War) and Jury Commissioner.

He was a farmer on the farm that had been his grandfathers and a member of the Christ

Casebeer Lutheran Church. In 1877 he traveled to Iowa to visit his sons who were living

there.

Daniel attended a Normal School to prepare for teaching. He taught in Pennsylvania and

Iowa. He moved to Waterloo, Iowa, in about 1888. Then he went into farming helping

Jerry Peck until purchasing a 160 acre farm in Eagle twp., Black Hawk County, Iowa,

south of Pecks. They lived there until 1944 then spent a year in California before

returning to Black Hawk County.

Daniel milked cows and was secretary of the Eagle Cooperative Creamery Company. He

was a Republican and served his township as assessor, clerk and secretary of the School

Board. he served as secretary of the Orange Telephone Company. Daniel was a deacon in

the First Brethren Church.

Minnie lived with Jerry and Lizzie Peck from about age eight. She had a large garden and

raised chickens and turkeys. She was a fine seamstress and made clothes for her children

and other family members. She also did a lot of crocheting and quilting. She made wool

blankets and bats from sheep Daniel raised and made comforters from the bats. Both had a

good sense of humor and even nature.

Allen grew up on his familyÕs farm in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. At age 16 he

worked three years at Parker and Parker, Dry Goods and Carpets in Somerset, PA. In

1891 he moved to Waterloo, Iowa, and got a job with John G. Hoff and Son, Dry Goods and

Carpets. Later he worked for James Black Dry Goods where he was a department manager

at Josie's death. After twenty years there, he opened his own store, LichtyÕs Dry Goods,

offering floor covering and draperies. Providing a rest room in the store was innovative

at the time.

Josie attended West High school. She is a member of the Christadlephian church. She was

a wonderful cook, making thin egg noodles and pulling molasses candy. Date pudding was a

specialty ar Christmas.

They lived at a duplex, 614 Wellington, Waterloo, IA, and had a summer cottage at 132

Gates Street, San Souci, an island on the Cedar River in Waterloo.

football scholarship until he was drafted in the army in WWII. He served in both the

atlantic and Pacific theaters and was discharged with the rank of Captain. He received the

Bronze Star. He graduated from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He

established a practice in Glendora, California. He was a member of the Lions Club and was

a member of the Glendora Unified School District school board. He remarried in 1973 to

Carol Seidler.

As a child RuthÕs legs were broken and pelvis crushed when a truch ran over her. Her

father worked nightly with her for over a year to helpher regain joint mobility and

muscle strength. Ruth began piano lessons at an early age and added the flute when Great

Uncle Edward gave his to her when she was ten. She graduated from pasadena City College

where she was vice president of the student body and received several honors. She gave

swimming lessons at the college in the summers. Ruth became a Registered Physical

therapist, graduating from the university of california and ChildrenÕs Hospital School of

Physical Therapy. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She earned her

teaching credential from Claremont Graduate School. Ruth worked with nadicapped

children until RobertÕs graduation from optometry school. She taught until Robert, jr.,

was born. After their third child went to school Ruth went back to teaching physical

education. She earned her M. S. degree at California State Polytechnic University. She

developed and administered a special educational program fro pregnant teens and school-

age mothers for the Glendora School District, which gained national recognition. ruth

retired from teaching in 1988 but serves as a consultant to the teen-mother program.

She is a member of Kiwaniannes.

BobÕs parents immigrated from Germany and he is fluent in the german language. Bob

studied architecture and graduated from the University of Southern California, which he

attended on a scholarship. Bob plays the clarinet. During his high school days he played in

a school band and private dance band. While at USC he played in the concert orchestra and

marching band. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked inindustry

until he began teaching architecture at East Los Angeles College in 1961, where he is a full

professor and chairman of the department. He is a member of the American Institute of

Architects and listed in the Dictionary of International Biography, the National Register of

Prominent American and International Notables, and the Royal Blue Book Leaders of the

In high school John was active in sports, especially football and tennis; student

activities, serving as Commissioner of Athletics and as a member of Hi-Y (YMCA). John

graduated from the University of California at Davis and the Autonomous University in

Guadalajara, Mexico. He completed his internship and residencey at the University of

California, Irvine, after which he continued as a junior faculty member. He remained

there for eight years as the Associate Director of the family Priactice residencey training

program and Associate Clinical Professor, while maintaining a family practice at Long

Beach Memorial Medical Center.

Betty graduated from the California State University, Northridge and University of

California Los Angeles as a Registered Physical Therapist. She has worked at Long Beach

Memorial Medical Center instroke rehabilitation and University of California, Irvine

Burn Unit. In addition, Betty has taught high school level math and science in Mexico to

English-speaking missionary children. Betty has been active in Nightingales, a volunteer

organization for ChildrenÕs Hospital, Long Beach.

John has a commission in the Merchant Marines as ShipÕs Surgeon and has served on the s.

S. Constitution and the S. S. Independence out of Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a member of the

Flying Samaritans (volunteer physician organization) which serves the medically indigent

in Mexico. In 1990 John and Betty designed and built a family medical center in Seal

Beach, California, where they work together.

John enjoys family activities, especially snow skiing and boating. Betty is artistic and

has dabbled in water colors, interior decoration, calligraphy and sewing. She loves to ski

in Colorado. When the children enter college, John and Betty hope to travel and do medical

missionary work.

Controls and Karin taught several more years. Shortly after Casey was born the family

changed to a new company, Automated Logic, a building management and controls company,
